Global Warming Statistics

Do we all know that , the Global surface temperature increased by 0.74 ± 0.18 °C (1.33 ± 0.32 °F) during the 100 years ending in 2005. Most conspicuously, according to the latest IPCC report the global surface temperature will likely to rise a further 1.1 to 6.4 °C (2.0 to 11.5 °F) during the twenty-first century.

These basic global warming statistics have been endorsed by more than 40 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries like “Australian Academy of Sciences, Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Sciences and the Arts, Brazilian Academy of Sciences, Royal Society of Canada, Caribbean Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, French Academy of Sciences, German Academy of Natural Scientists Leopoldina, Indian National Science Academy, Indonesian Academy of Sciences, Royal Irish Academy, Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei (Italy), Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Academy Council of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and Royal Society (UK),etc ”.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) also concludes that anthropogenic (human made) greenhouse gases, such as CO and CO2 ,are responsible for most of the observed temperature increase since the middle of the twentieth century, and that natural phenomena such as solar variation and volcanoes had a small warming effect from Pre-industrial times to 1950 and a small cooling effect afterward.

Most of the global warming statistics are focused on the period up to year 2100. However, global warming is expected to continue beyond year 2100, even if the emissions stop, the global warming will continue to increase because of the large heat capacity of the oceans and the long lifetime of carbon dioxide (co2) in the atmosphere.

Now, based on the above global warming statistics, the very first question arises “What would be the effects of global warming?”

The answer is more aroused and nonjudgmental, the full increase in alarming global warming statistics would cause sea levels to rise and also change in the amount and pattern of precipitation, likely including expansion of subtropical deserts. The continuing retreat of glaciers, permafrost and sea ice is expected, with the Arctic region being particularly affected. The other regions also likely to be effected by shrinkage of the Amazon rain forest and Boreal forests, increases in the intensity of extreme weather events like Tsunami and Hurricanes, species extinctions and changes in agricultural yields.

The available Global warming prevention options are mitigation to reduce further emissions; adaptation to reduce the damage caused by warming; and, more speculatively, Geo engineering to reverse global warming.

As political and public debate continues regarding the appropriate response to global warming. Most of the national governments have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. A successor to the first commitment period of the Kyoto protocol is expected to be agreed at the “COP15–United Nations Climate Change Conference” talks in December 2009.

  1. what is up with this website nothing is true! Global Warming is NOT real but everybody thinks that it is. There is such thing as climate change but I don’t beleive that the world is going to burn up because of global warming. To the people that think global warming is real then tell me how do you explain the scientists that are coming out saying that they just made up all the numbers and statistics about global warming because they have made a profit over it?!

  2. Kaydee, you’re an idiot. There is plenty of proof that global warming is indeed happening. Would you like to explain to me why the polar ice caps are melting at a speed faster than ever recorded, why our sea levels are rising, among many countless other facts? There will always be someone trying to make a profit out of anything, and to have that has the basis of your argument is simply flawed.

    Stop spamming with your garbage.

  3. There are many things the human race (including me) aren’t doin. If people can just stop worrying about themselves and take a look around, then maybe the world would be a better place for us and for the kids were going to bring into this beautiful yet harmful world. If there is anything i can do to save the enviroment then i would have done it by NOW!!!!!!!

  4. I totally agree with Rachel. For example at the rate at which we are burning fossil fuels – if you sum total the heat that a car generates by burning fuel and multiply it by the total number of cars, it will run into thousands and millions of degrees/kelvin. Then there are power plants some of which generate electricity using coal etc. All this can lead to a catastrophe. I mean not just warming but all the pollution that it causes. We need to implement solar power and clean sources of energy now! (we are already late).

  5. hey just cuz people tell you that something is or isn’t happening doesn’t mean that what they’re saying is true. i think we all need to simmer down and look at the straight facts and not let our opinion get in the way. plus i think that if we dont know all the stats we can’t really give a good opinion anyway!

  6. I like global warming that way i don’t have to deal with the stupid snow. Yeah:)

  7. That’s true but if you don’t want snow you could move somewhere warmer, i like the snow! :P it’s a nice break from the hot summer. and global warming might not really be happening. Contrary to the popular belief that glaciers all over the world are melting, in some places they are actually GROWING. In Iceland and Greenland, the first half of the twentieth century was warmer than the second half. In Iceland, most glaciers lost mass after 1930 because temperatures temporarily rose by 6 degrees Celsius. But since then the climate has gotten colder, and since 1970 the glaciers have been growing. Including eleven glaciers which are surging in size. so we are having some pretty weird weather but I’m not sure it’s global warming.

  8. i just wish the world would stop being so ignorant and come to their senses. we are harming the planet, there is no doubt about it, but it is too big of a tragedy for people to believe. Therefore we as people will continue to destroy the earth.

  9. I love this website because it’s SOOOOO true. The Earth is changing and whether it’s our fault or not, we can do something about it if we just try.

  10. nice ashley! way to be! <3 and M.E, i totally agree with you except it's not necessarily global WARMING, it's more severe climate change either way your right we need to clean up our act or when we go to heaven, we can look down and see all our great grand children struggle through the life we made for them, cuz yes we're not the only ones, but we played a part. and that's sad :(

  11. HEY! this site is great! it has so many facts but i need serious help… im doing a speech on global warming real or fake and im going for real! so i dont know if you can help me with very goood reliable sources, charts, statistics NOT opinions i need facts from websites like this.! ending in .org , .edu , . gov !!
    thanks for ur help!

  12. fools. Global warming has nothing to do with humans. Carbon dioxide has very little influence on global temperatures. for example, during the Ordovician period, it was an ice age and carbon dioxide levels were 10-12 times what they are today. Also, while the arctic ice is at a 30 year low, antarctic ice is at a 30 year high. Earth’s climate is far to complicated to have one theory cover all the changes that happen over a course of a say 200 years. Just because global averages are up 0.6 degrees Celsius does not mean were all gonna fry up. There have been times in the last 12,000 years when the temperatures went up 18 F in just 20 years, nothing anywhere near that scale is happening. Also anthropogenic warming is just bull, because Earth has been through many rapid climate changes, had ocean levels rise twice as fast millions of years before our earliest mammal relatives were evolving

  13. I have no idea why so many people question if Global Warming is even happening? When I look at the countless studies and docus I find tons of solid evidence for global warming! And even to take the slightest chance is playing Russian roulette with nature and mankind!!

  14. the polar ice caps are metling because they have nothing to replenish them there has to be water in the air to make condensation to make the water freeze and replace the ice that is melting when ice melts and there is no water to replace it of coarse it is going to decrease over millions of years..just saying

  15. you dont knw whats true stop basing your reasearch off wikapedia our actions account for less than 1 percent of the greenhouse gas emisins. It would take us hundreds of years to make as much co2 as a volcano

  16. I say that global warming is true but its not because of people its becaus of 2012! jk no people are causing some but most is happing on it own so people have almost nothing to worry about because in less you live to be 20000 or something like that you will be dead be then anyways so have fun with life then die dont worry so much . also im not a hippie i sware

  17. hay lay
    seriously think about it
if the snow melts wheres it gonna go?
if you were to put an ice cube in a drink, wouldnt the liquid increase?
same thing would happen with ice bergs
if they melt, the water in the antarctic ocean will increase
making the water rise over the level..
    get the idea?

  18. you cannot prove the existence of global warming simply by saying that loads of studies have been published confirming it. for every one of these studies there is a study disproving global warming. throughout history even the brightest scientists have been capable of getting things completely wrong. even though statistics and facts may be accurate, a different spin can be put on them depending on personal beliefs! global warming/climate change ought to be debated and discussed rather than believing whatever you are told without question…

  19. We have to mitigate what our Mother Earth is coping and we have to implement rules to help our Mother Earth needs and wants. Am a newbie and admired your website too much that it hooked me a day by clicking and clicking….so informative and so intelligent. Hoping that I can enter some of your videos and important documents to my URL…if you will.

  20. I have seen alot of national geographic shows about this Global Warming “theory.” Most of the time, they handpick scientists that do believe in Global Warming and make you think that every scientists in the world argrees with this theory. To be honest, if the world’s temperature ahs only increased by a few degrees in the past few thousand years, we should not expect it to effect our lives in any way. and this website says so itself. If the world temp increases about 6 degrees in 100 years, nothing will change any time soon in our life span. If you crazy nutjobs, who think we should do anything to stop this nonsense, well then I guess we should stop breathing, since we let out CO2, stop farting because it releases methane into the air. Kill the cows so they stop farting, and apparently, according to Al Gore, we should not eat meat at all. And if im not mistaken, Al Gore does not do any better of a job of “helping the eviroment then any of us. He leaves his lights on all night. Thats not very conserving.

  21. To all of you,

Global warming IS happening. However, the earth has been going through global warmings AND coolings in cycles since the beginning of time. I believe that the human race IS having an impact, though not as large as an impact as some believe. I DO believe we should try to limit our impact.

I do have a question though… all the statistics showing the “thousands of years” before today… where do they get that information? I am pretty sure that there are no actual recordings of 400 thousand years ago.

  22. to amber,
scientists find large quantities of ice that has been around for the past hundred thousand years and calculate the amount of CO2 trapped inside and are able to date that particular block of ice because of where it is relative to other…stuff and then able to calculate how much the earth had warmed from the concentration of CO2 they find trapped in the ice..

with that being said, its the methane levels from agricultural byproducts that cause global warming, this site is very educational and offers great insights into the processes of various gases and thermodynamics present on earth, however its more just a site to raise awareness of pollution than actual global warming, we humans can’t actually have that significant impact on global climate, we would literally have to to cover the atmosphere with 1000 times as much as CO2 as there is now to actually have an impact, CO2 makes up less than 0.1% of the air we breath.

Global warming is taking place its just that haha its not caused by us haha. However, socioeconomically the world can truly benefit from global warming. More warmth means more places are habitable and able to be farmed, more farms give more people jobs and increases the world’s supply of food stuffs. businesses can’t operate as well in freezing climates, so global warming is trully a great remedy to today’s global financial situation

oh and just saying, how reliable is the above statistics if they are being published from a website that is proclaiming that global warming is so serious. Obviously they are going to only going to find the facts that can support their cause and take these facts out of context.

bottom-line: global warming is taking place however it is neither man made nor a negative consequence

  23. I absolutely believe in global warming and we definitely need to do something about it. But, let’s suppose that it’s not actually happening. What is so bad about adopting a healthier way of life? A more eco-friendly way of life reduces pollution and harmful substances in our air and water supplies. Global warming aside, isn’t this a great reason to be more eco-friendly? How can anyone fail to see this?! If we just act like global warming is an actual threat to us, the worst case scenario is that we’ve created a cleaner and more sustainable earth for ourselves and generations after us. Where’s the harm in that?

To Dave: Some countries may benefit in some way from global warming but, most significantly, more countries are going to suffer (and are currently suffering) from global warming. Your logic is completely absurd.
“More warmth means more places are habitable and able to be farmed, more farms give more people jobs and increases the world’s supply of food stuffs. businesses can’t operate as well in freezing climates, so global warming is trully a great remedy to today’s global financial situation”
So, the current global recession would be solved or would at least benefit from us being able to farm in Alaska and other cold regions of the earth? What about the countries that were at the perfect temperature to grow certain crops? Now they’re too warm and the land has dried up and become infertile. This truly is a great remedy for today’s global financial situation!

With regards to the struggling businesses operating in freezing climates: I think it’s safe to assume that any business operating in a freezing climate has made a conscious decision to operate in that particular climate and has learned to adapt to it. Furthermore, it’s quite likely that such a business actually needs this particular climate to operate effectively. I strongly doubt that someone went up to Greenland to set up a vineyard. Obviously, this is an absurd and ridiculous example but I’m using it to illustrate the absurdity or your argument.

Global warming, whether you want to believe in it or not, is something that is worth taking seriously, even just to save a bit of money on your electricity bill.

  24. If you don’t believe in global warming, you should. It’s as real as you and me. If people weren’t so thick headed and actually tried to learn something, maybe we could do something to stop global warming.
Do you really want animals to go extinct because of this? And don’t say “well I’d rather it be a stupid animal than me.” Because guess what, if we let global warming progress far enough, you’ll go extinct too. Global warming has already claimed 35,000 lives or more. Do you really want it to claim your life too?

  25. Due to the overwhelming response to global warming, its effects, and the lack of support from civilians. The Earth is obviously doomed to a firery death because if we do not do our part to prevent its effects and to prevent it from happening… We will all end up victims.

  26. Look up at the top comments by Kaydee.
    She contradicts herself.
‘I love this website everything is true!’
‘What is up with this website nothing is true!’
