Greenwashing is the energy conservation equivalent to white washing-when companies use the public’s desire for environmentally friendly businesses to create a positive look for themselves without truly implementing the desired performance. The origination of greenwashing came about when the hotel industry began a practice of putting notices in guest rooms asking that they reuse towels and sheets, and that they will only replace used items upon request of the guest.
